BMW M240i
BMW’s M240i is the more powerful of the two non-M-badged 2-series models and is among the last of the affordable, sporty, rear-drive cars you can buy. Turbocharged inline-six cylinders send 335 horsepower to the rear axle via a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All-wheel drive is available, as well as a convertible model, but the sportiest combo is the rear-drive, stick-shift coupe. M240i delivers near-M2 performance with far more livable ride quality and comfort.

Its sizable spoiler and various vents give the Honda something like a racer image. The first thing that strikes you as you settle into the low set seat is the controls that feel expensively engineered. It has only got one powertrain, a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired to a six-speed manual and is front-wheel-drive. Hyper-sharp steering control, a near endless amount of grip, a comfortable cockpit, and loads of standard tech delivers startling acceleration.
Porsche 911 Carrera
Porsche 911 has grown longer and slightly wider than the 992 and is available in 444bhp, 3.0-liter turbo, with an eight-speed gearbox and with either rear or four-wheel drive. These features have sharpened the car’s handling ability effectively. Its turbo engine makes it a real-world performer and direct rival for the other cars in usability, for sporting credibility and for the accessible everyday use.
2018 Ford Mustang GT
The Mustang has quietly turned into a tech-forward, true sports car that can really perform. For the model year 2018, the Mustang gets visual twists including a lower, restyled hood and grille, reworked LED lights both front and rear, and some suspension tweaks.
Its 2.3-liter Eco boost four-cylinder engine makes a whopping 350 horsepower and does so with less weight than the V8-powered GT.
Chevrolet Camaro
A new generation Camaro arrived, bringing the muscle car an athletic frame and ferocious performance. It’s arguably the best muscle car at the track, outfitted with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 455-hp, V6 or V8 engine and a six-speed, short-throw manual. You can also add the Magnetic Ride Control suspension a worthy $1,700 upgrade.
Just make sure to test drive one before you get too far in the buying process, the poor rear visibility is a deal-breaker for some.
Bentley Continental GT
Bentley Continental is all-new from the ground up and shares all the right bits with the current Porsche Panamera, including its four-wheel-drive system. And while it looks similar to the old car at a glance, clever design work actually reveals a lower and leaner looking machine. Inside it is wall-to-wall wood and leather, but the infotainment system is cutting edge rather than dial-up.
It’s still heavy but it feels so much lighter on its feet. Of course, the twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 remains a highlight. With a staggering 626bhp, it’ll punch past 62mph in 3.7 seconds and won’t stop going until it hits 207mph. It’s a Bentley Continental GT, but not as we know it.
Lexus LC
This car has a superbly charismatic and likable V8 engine, and balanced, energetic handling makes it feel, at times, more of a natural rival for a Jaguar F-Type or a Porsche 911.
The LC seems large, heavy, leaden-footed and a bit bulky on the road at times, so you never quite escape a feeling of ambivalence towards the car. Its V8 engine is hugely special; on a smooth surface, its sheer swiftness and balance are quite something. Equally, the car’s cabin and interior are remarkably luxurious.
2018 Dodge Challenger T/A
The Challenger T/A goes full retro visually but with some useful and modern performance goodies. The T/A’s make the Challenger’s throwback appearance with its black decals, script logos, air-catcher headlights, and optional hood pins. It has a 5.7-liter, 375-hp, and V8 engine. It gets a louder, active exhaust, lowered suspension, and stickier tires.
Luckily, its cabin tech is not throwback at all: the 8.4” touchscreen system is one of the best infotainment systems.
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
This is a fairly large supercar with a strong naturally aspirated engine up front, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The Corvette comes with an interior which is a leap over of the model it replaces on quality and equipment.
There’s plenty of ability here with a big 6.2-liter pushrod V8 engine, rear-drive, manual box, and transverse, composite leaf-sprung rear axle. The car’s interior is greatly enjoyable with lots of buttons and red-leather but it feels nicely made and the double-scoop of the dash makes it feel special.
